Trend hunting is my absolute favorite part of visiting JCK and LUXURY Las Vegas. Not only does it give me ample fodder for blog posts throughout the year, but it also involves looking at—and trying on—some very special jewelry all day long. (It’s a tough job, but someone’s gotta do it!)
What new looks will we see on the show floor this year? I asked my JCK Magazine colleagues for their expert opinions. This brilliant team knows what’s up (they spend a lot of time studying jewelry), so I have a feeling their predictions will come true. Here are their picks for the biggest trends to expect at LUXURY by JCK.
“Sculptural silver jewelry in the tradition of Georg Jensen and Elsa Peretti is making a huge comeback in fashion, and I think we’ll be seeing many JCK exhibitors embrace silver with organic-feeling, all-metal designs.” —Emili Vesilind, senior editor
“A few micro trends have been on my radar this year, and I’ll be tracking them at the show: carved jade, kyanite, conch pearls, and trapiche emeralds. I’m expecting to see opals—especially Ethiopian opals—in abundance; peach/strawberry/melon color stories; long, swingy station necklaces; and pendants on long chains.” —Amy Elliott, contributing editor
“I’d say there are two types of trends: those that are editorial in nature (like trapiche emeralds and any of the things we’ve featured on our Look openers this year) and those that are saleable, such as charm bracelets, regular ol’ emeralds, and the other trends we spotlighted in the Fab Five feature in the May issue. My favorite editorial trend this year is rainbow jewels. —Victoria Gomelsky, editor-in-chief
“Purple! Anything relating to Ultra Violet, Pantone’s Color of the Year, is still going strong, largely because it matches so many gemstones. Try mixing amethyst, ametrine, sugilite, or purple sapphires with emeralds—which are having a major moment—for an edgier vibe, or with turquoise for a bright, summery look.” —Melissa Rose Bernardo, managing editor
