August 9, 2016 Accessories Council’s ACE Awards
In August JCK Industry Vice President Katie Dominesey and Group Marketing Director Lauren Laramore attended the 20th Anniversary of the Accessories Council’s ACE awards at Cipriani in New York City. ACE, which stands for Accessories Council Excellence, was established to celebrate the accessories industry’s remarkable talent and leadership. Esteemed honorees included JCK retailer and ACE Retailer of the Year Bergdorf Goodman, a division of Neiman Marcus Group. Other ACE winners included Sarah Jessica Parker, Julianna Margulies, Jennifer Fisher, Ray-Ban and many more. “It was great to see retailers, brands and influencers together at an event that celebrates those who are pushing the envelope to create successful business practices with an eye towards the future of retail. We were happy to represent the jewelry and watch sector and support an excellent event organized by our
friends at the Accessories Council.” This past year the Accessories Council made their JCK debut in the Bridge neighborhood with exhibiting brands: Judith Leiber Couture, Eriness, Elyse Ryan, Carolyn Pollack Jewelry, American West Jewelry, Ela Rae, Sarah Magid Jewelry, Sardeira, So Pretty Cara Cotter, and Tashka by Beatrice. In addition to an exhibiting presence Accessories Council president Karen Giberson moderated JCK’s highly lauded panels on the Showcase Stage featuring A-list costume designers and fashion icons.

Hannah Connorton, LUXURY’s retailer account manager, found herself back in her home state of Rhode Island this month to visit with Baxter’s Fine Jewelry. Baxter’s is a high-end, all-encompassing jewelry store in the city of Warwick that carries brands from Forevermark to Charles Garnier and Freida Rothman, and also offers custom jewelry via its on-site jeweler. Paul Messerlian, a LUXURY Platinum retailer and owner of Baxter’s gave Hannah valuable feedback on what he enjoys about the show, as well as ideas to make it even more enjoyable for attendees in 2017. It was all about connecting the dots with hometown roots for Hannah – when asked what her favorite part of the trip was, she said “Paul and I are both from the city of Cranston and went to the same middle school, which was fun to learn. He’s extremely smart and friendly, and it was great to not only brainstorm about how we can make the LUXURY show great for our buyers, but to create a relationship with a store in a community I feel very close to.”

LUXURY Industry Vice President Sarin Bachmann and her retailer liaison counterpart Hannah dedicated part of their hump day this week visiting with LUXURY Elite jewelers in Greenwich and Westport, CT, one of which was Manfredi Jewels. Sarin and Hannah chatted with Clara Monzon and Dafina Laca about the highlights of the 2016 show, as well as steps the LUXURY show could take to help retailers better prepare for their Vegas trip in 2017, such as tools that would help with appointment-setting and navigating the floor. Hannah commented, “It’s such a great experience to see our buyers and their stores in their own environment. Visiting Clara and Dafina at Manfredi Jewels on Greenwich Avenue provided a relaxed atmosphere to laugh, reminisce about the show and most importantly find out what we’re doing right and how we can improve for them and our entire retailer community.” As for Sarin’s favorite part from store visits, she commented, “It’s so valuable to have the discussions of how they shop at LUXURY and brainstorm ways to make the experience even easier for them in the future. They had the idea of us sending out floorplans earlier for retailers so they can plan their appointments better which we are planning on implementing for 2017!”

Women’s Jewelry Association members nationwide marked the fourth annual Jewelry Night Out last Thursday. A large showing from the Reed Jewelry Group team attended the NY Metro Chapter’s event which took place at Studio 450 – a loft space in Manhattan with a roof top terrace that boasts incredible skyline views. With representatives from JIS, LUXURY, JCK Events and Magazine, everyone enjoyed mingling with old friends, meeting new friends and getting inspired during #NYFW with the talented and funny, Sew Sketchy. Aside from the purple JIS-Tinis, the best part of the evening was the moving tribute to Cindy Edelstein, the driver behind the entire concept of WJA JNO. The illustration of Cindy (shown here) was drawn by Sew Sketchy and given to Cindy’s daughter Remy. It was a moving and celebratory evening and any night that begins with ‘jewelry’ is a good night for us.
