When the Sun Goes Down in Las Vegas

What to do with your evenings off the show floor

What’s your favorite non-show activity in Las Vegas? For me, it’s dining out. There are so many great restaurants both on and off the Strip that you can find something new and different no matter how many times you’ve visited Sin City.

And while dining out in Las Vegas can take up a good chunk of your evening, it’s often just the first step of an epic night out. You’d have to be a party machine to go out every night, but if you’re among the many who do, there are activities to fill an entire evening (plus the early morning hours) with ease. Here are some of my favorite things to do after the hot sun sets in Las Vegas.

See a Show!

You can’t come to Vegas and not see at least one show—particularly if you’re a repeat visitor. Try one of the crowd favorites like Cirque du Soleil (there are eight to choose from, including Michael Jackson: One, The Beatles: Love, and the watery world of O), or take in one of the many musicals on tour. June’s highlights include Hamilton, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s CinderellaThe Musical, and Marilyn! The New Musical.

If celebrity headliners are more your style, Jennifer Lopez has taken up residency at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino, and Donny and Marie Osmond put on a show at the Flamingo. Check local ticket sales for upcoming comedy and musical tours, too, from the likes of Dane Cook, Kesha and Macklemore, and Kansas.

The list goes on, from cabaret to tribute concerts, and everywhere in between. If you only partake in one form of live entertainment during your stay, make it JCK Rocks the Bowl. For the second year, everyone from JCK will head to The Brooklyn Bowl, an entertainment complex featuring music, networking, food and drink, and bowling. Held on June 3 from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m., this event offers fantastic networking opportunities. It’s also a great way to celebrate with industry friends new and old—and the perfect way to close out another successful year in Vegas. Note that tickets are required for entry. You can pick up them with your badge at the information counters on the show floor. To find out more, visit this page!

Dance the Night Away

If your feet don’t protest too loudly (you got the comfy footwear memo for show hours, right?), spend an evening shakin’ it on the dance floor. Vegas has a number of clubs to choose from, with something for everyone, even if you’re not really the club-hopping type. JCK Las Vegas badge-holders get the bonus of having access to two of Vegas’s most popular nightclubs, both located at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino: Hakkasan and JEWEL. Present your badge on June 1 and June 4, respectively, for complimentary, expedited access until 1 a.m. It’s a party!

Wander

Sometimes the best plan is to have no plan at all. Grab a drink, stroll the Strip, and see where it takes you. You might end up discovering a new favorite restaurant, or perhaps you’ll be drawn into a new venue, entranced by the music coming from inside. Who knows where the night will lead? Not knowing is part of the fun.

Finally, make the most of your time at Mandalay Bay, the wonderful venue that has been home to JCK for the past eight years. (JCK Las Vegas moves to the Venetian/Sands Expo and Convention Center in 2019!) Spend evenings at everyone’s favorite meet-up spot, Eye Candy. Take your chances on the floor of the casino. Go under the sea at Shark Reef. And enjoy some of the many fine restaurants located in the resort before we all move on to our next adventure.
