International Retail Delegation: Helena Cattaneo, Jóia & Cia, Brazil

A trip to JCK Las Vegas requires plenty of planning, whether you’re showcasing as a designer, putting together a team to handle sales at your booth, or making a list of brands to see as a retail store owner. Coming from overseas often involves even more steps, from navigating customs to setting your phone for international travel.

So imagine the job of Helena Cattaneo, CEO of the Brazilian jewelry publication Jóia & Cia. Over the last few years, JCK has partnered with a number of international delegations to bring the best brands from various countries to JCK Las Vegas attendees. As an authority in the Brazilian jewelry market, Joia & Cia is the ideal candidate to ensure a stellar lineup from Brazil. We talked with Cattaneo to get an idea of what her job entails.

Tell us about Jóia & Cia.

Helena Cattaneo: Revista Jóia & Cia is a Brazilian publication focused on the jewelry sector and devoted to updating readers on the latest trends and novelties in the gems and jewels market. It is recognized for its high-quality journalism and images. We have subscribers from all over Brazil and around the world.

What is your role in organizing and bringing exhibitors, buyers, and attendees to JCK Las Vegas?

HC: Our main focus is to bring buyers, including Brazilian buyers, to the show. Our role is to help make the connection between the right profile of buyers—those who are best suited to JCK Las Vegas—and the show. Buyers who subscribe get to know the show through our magazine. We guide them on how to participate and give them specifics on how to navigate the show to meet their needs.

What is the most challenging part, and what is the best part?

HC: Our biggest challenge is to find the right supplier for each buyer. The best part is when the partnership begins and continues to be a win-win for both.

What are the biggest jewelry trends from Brazil that you’ve observed this year?

HC: The biggest trend right now is a comeback to a more conservative and classic style of jewelry, leaving behind more fashion-forward designs.

What would you tell buyers at JCK Las Vegas who are looking to do business with exhibitors from Brazil?

HC: The Brazilian jewelry market has great distinction in design, always making the best use of beautiful Brazilian stones.

What advice can you give to buyers visiting Las Vegas from Brazil or any other international location? It can be a bit overwhelming, so any tips would be great!

HC: JCK Las Vegas is the most complete international showcase. There is a range of manufacturers from all over the world, so the show manages to have everything a jeweler needs to make his business thrive. We usually tend to the specific needs of each buyer, orienting them on where they can find what they are looking for.

What makes JCK Las Vegas an important event for international buyers and sellers?

HC: It is one of the biggest shows in the world, with a huge array of exhibitors. And Las Vegas is a great city with so much to offer. When you are there, work meets leisure!

What are you most looking forward to at JCK Las Vegas this year?

HC: As always, we are very eager to meet new people and, of course, to rediscover old clients.
