Last week, industry members gathered at JCK Tucson 2019 to enjoy a relaxing yet productive week of discoveries, networking, education and special events to fully experience the jewelry industry’s winter oasis. The show boasted an impressive lineup of designers showcasing one-of-a-kind gemstones and jewelry.
While each designer offered something beautiful and unique, the JCK Tucson Design Challenge is offered as a way to highlight and honor designers who think out-of-the-box and who take exceptional pride in materials and craftsmanship. Most importantly, the Design Challenge commends those who break the boundaries of jewelry design.
We determined the 2019 winners over an intimate breakfast with the help of our wonderful judges: Jen Cullen Williams, Mark Smelzer and Scott Saunders.
Cullen Williams is an award-winning marketer, and the Managing Director of Luxury Brand Group, who has extensive experience and exceptional relationships with top tier fashion, lifestyle, consumer and trade media. Smelzer is an experienced publisher for JCK Magazine. Saunders is the Senior Vice President of London Jewelers and focuses on growth opportunities for the five-store chain as well as working with vendors to enhance relationships.
In partnership with London Jewelers, we are happy to award this year’s honorees. Check out the 2019 winners below!
L. Klein – winner of the London Jewelers Award
L. Klein – designed by American designer Lauren Klein – took home the London Jewelers Award for her impressive Prisma Black Agate Necklace, made with 18k yellow gold and black agate.
L. Klein jewelry is handmade in Italy using centuries-old techniques that have been handed down generation to generation. Klein launched her jewelry line in 2016 after 14 years in the home décor industry and made her JCK Tucson debut this year. Combining her love for Italy, design and jewelry, Klein has created an exquisite 18k gold collection. With a focus on timeless and elegant design, she often updates traditional Italian designs with her own contemporary style.
The Prisma Black Agate Necklace is an excellent example of the simplicity and elegance of the L. Klein collection. Meticulously handcrafted in 18k gold, each orb is decorated with a highly-polished gold “X” and attached to a beautiful and weighty 18k chain, with a large lobster claw clasp and the L. Klein logo charm to finish it off. The necklace is adjustable 16”-18” and also available in 37”.
Debra Navarro – winner of the Industry Choice Award
The Industry Choice Award went to Debra Navarro for her gorgeous Vincent Green Beryl Cocktail Ring, 10.50ct Green Beryl wrapped asymmetrically in rich 18k recycled gold and sprinkled with 0.26ctw sand pave.
The Vincent Cocktail Ring is named after a trusted driver and guide who safely navigates his travelers through the East African bush enroute to artisanal mining sites. Vincent is characterized by his warm personality, a combination of strength and humor that makes him beloved by all.
Navarro designs luxurious jewelry that is uniquely beautiful and deeply meaningful. With a refined yet organic aesthetic each piece is one of a kind, using rich 18k recycled gold, an earthy palette of natural colored diamonds, and responsibly sourced gemstone rough hand selected in East Africa.
Congratulations to London Jewelers runner-ups Alishan Designs and Robert Guild, as well as the Industry Choice runner-ups JS Noor and Tresor Collection. Thank you to all the amazing JCK Tucson designers that participated!
