We are thrilled to have Frangos join us at JCK Las Vegas 2019 on Level 1 of the Sands Expo & Convention Center, joined by seven other amazing Greek jewelry designers.
We caught up with Frangos designer Nikolas Frangos to get the inside scoop on Greek design, personalizing through design, incorporating trends with tradition and much more:
How did your journey in the jewelry industry begin?
We started 32 years ago as a family business and that was an idea of our late mother who was really keen in jewelry!
What was the initial inspiration for your brand?
The initial inspiration were the years of the 80’s, so imagine the impact of the crazy fashion jewelry of the time on our young brains. However, pretty soon, we were more attracted and thus shifted by the fashion jewelry of the Golden years—the unforgettable 40’s, 50’s and 60’s.
How long does it typically take to create a piece of jewelry?
Depends on how simple or complicated a piece is! Not less than a whole working day, sometimes for an exquisite big necklace it can take up to a full week!
How would you describe your brand using only three words?
Every day luxury!
As a Greek designer, can you tell us how Greek jewelry differs from other contemporary jewelry brands today?
Greek craftsmanship comes from a deep rooted history, thus all the traditions and all the influences incorporated in this long time shape the face of the Greek Jewelry in a very unique and individual style which is peerless and transcendent!
How do you personalize your jewelry and designs?
We always had and still have the thought and the feeling that every piece of jewelry should be unique and individual, thus we try hard to make it come true by letting our initial idea become a reality no matter what!
I will insist here on the use of the world feeling as we strongly believe that you cannot make jewelry only with cold logic and no feeling, that’s not us!
Your designs are very fashion-forward. How do you incorporate fashion and modern trends while still offering something timeless that wearers can enjoy for many years?
At first we would like to thank you for this compliment! We think the answer here comes that though we have our eyes open to the new trends and we do follow them (not all times though and not necessarily), as we are mainly inspired, as mentioned before, by the classical Golden years of fashion jewelry, we do mix and realize in our jewelry these new trends with the timeless standards of that era!
What do you think sets your jewelry apart from other companies that specialize in fine jewelry?
As in our work we use different and, permit me to say, “unorthodox” materials, from humble metals to rare vintage glass stones and Swarovski crystals, we come to the result that our jewelry, away from the spirit of the industrial line, are very personalized carrying the lightness and the “craziness” of fashion jewelry in one hand, however handmade with the detailed and qualified skilled work of a fine jewelry!
How would you describe your target audience?
Dynamic, bold women who dare to stand out and show their femininity and elegance.
What types of pieces and collections can we expect to see from you at JCK Las Vegas 2019?
We intend to launch two main lines and collections at the show. Geometrical pieces ornate with Swarovski crystals carrying the signature of Jean Paul Gaultier, while the second one will consist of jewelry inspired from the colors and the natural variety of spring, thus, please, expect a burst of colors!
Any other fun plans in Vegas when you’re not exhibiting your designs?
Yes, in search of good restaurants and fun places where you can listen to great music. It seems I’m not gambling!
