Last week Isabel Cajulis, JCK Retailer Account Manager, traveled to California’s Bay Area to learn about the jewelry market. Below she tells us the ins and outs of what’s trending in San Francisco right now, the retail jewelers she visited, and the industry events that she was more than happy to attend.
#Trending – Jewels and Jewelry Retailers
From Sausalito and San Francisco to Palo Alto and Menlo Park, I took a tour of some of the most unique jewelry retail stores. I browsed immaculate jewelry collections and even got to select my favorites, which led to trying on tons of gorgeous jewelry pieces – a hard task I know, but someone had to do it.
Stops along my course included:
- Sausalito Jewelers – Sausalito
- Padis Jewelers – San Francisco
- Love & Luxe – San Francisco
- Fiat Lux – San Francisco
- No. 3 – San Francisco
- Gallery of Jewels – San Francisco
- De Novo Contemporary Fine Jewelry – Palo Alto
- Mansoor Fine Jewelers – Palo Alto
- Ceci Wong – Menlo Park
Trends I couldn’t help but notice:
- Dainty styles perfect for layering and stacking
- Organic, bespoke, raw diamond engagement rings – so authentic
- Custom is King – elevated experience associated with designing it yourself
- Alternative engagement rings feature lovely colored gemstones
- New metal choices for men’s bands
- Sustainable and responsible sourcing – everywhere
There aren’t enough words I can say to express all of the good things these stores had to offer. The selection of beautiful pieces was expansive and those running the stores welcomed me in with open arms to explore and immerse myself in the jewelry culture. Thank you all again!
First Ever AGS San Francisco Guild Meeting
Luckily, my trip was timed just right and landed me at the first AGS San Francisco Guild meeting. JCK is an overall sponsor of the AGS Guilds across the country so it was exciting to be a part of the first meeting in this area. As expected, it went off without a hitch – you’d never know it was their first one. Congratulations to the members on a successful first event!
Jewelry Takes a Night Out
While visiting the West Coast and seeing what the area has to offer, I had the luxury of attending the WJA NorCal chapter’s Jewelry Night Out event. As always, it was great to catch up with industry friends and even make some new ones. As an added bonus, the evening featured an enlightening interview with Deborah Cohen, VP of Merchandising of Marco Bicego, and Claudia Mata. They had some insightful feedback on Marco Bicego’s journey with e-commerce and social media. Great content, even better people.
There’s More to the Silicon Valley
As if my jewelry store experiences weren’t amazing enough, I was able to flip into tourist mode to see so many parts of San Francisco – from Union Square to Mission Street and the Castro District. I tackled the Fillmore Stairs (and can still feel my calves burning) to see the incredible views of San Francisco Bay when I reached the top. I don’t think I could ever get used to those hills! The ferry from Sausalito offered a great perspective of the Golden Gate Bridge and the city’s hillside beauty as seen from the water. To top off my trip, in Palo Alto, I had a true Silicon Valley experience seeing a self-driving car and being the ONLY ONE in Starbucks using pen and paper!
Overall, I had a great time exploring the Bay Area jewelry scene and I’m already getting excited for my next Retailer Roadtrip. Follow my travels on the JCK Events Instagram to see where I am off to next!
