Today I’m taking you Full Circle with an influential retailer who’s ready to take on LUXURY Privé in 2 days. Eva-Michelle Spicer, Co-owner of Wick and Greene, has a background that speaks for itself with a lifetime in the jewelry business representing the 4th generation of Wick and Greene Jewelers (the new Spicer Green jewelers). Eva impacts the industry in a positive light and has certainly made her mark in the JCK community. Two months ago when the jewelry world came together for another memorable Las Vegas Jewelry Week, Eva-Michelle’s store was honored with a nomination for LUXURY Retailer of the Year going off the year’s theme, personal touch. The following day, you could find Eva-Michelle leading an important session in the JCK Talks education program, Success in Succession Planning. We’re excited to welcome her back to LUXURY Privé on Sunday and hope to see you all in NYC!

What is the last item you splurged on?
Christian Louboutin shoes – oops, I mean jewelry?
What do you love most about the jewelry industry? What do you find the most challenging?
It’s creative, personal, and very rewarding. I love designing jewelry for patrons with them in mind. It’s a joy to get to create their next family heirloom. I am bridal challenged – that’s where my husband thrives – it just all looks the same to me!
What’s something you can’t live without?
Next month, you will be operating business as Spicer Greene Jewelers. Who is Spicer Greene Jewelers, how are you different and how are you the same?
Spicer Greene is the next generation of jewelry store. We have a larger focus on bridal and even have “The Engagement Bar” which is a really cool interactive experience for millennials who are getting engaged. Elliott (my husband) and I are in our 20’s so we can relate to the new consumer like Wick and Greene never did. We are as committed as ever to quality and service but are bringing in our unique flair!
How did you get started and what’s been the biggest surprise on your brand’s journey?
I started when I was 5 years old answering the phone at my grandparent’s store – I never had a “baby voice” and I skipped most of my childhood because my parents expected me to hang with the adults (and it worked!). My biggest surprise is being in the jewelry business in general! I was one of those “I’ll never do what my parents and grandparents did” people and then I fell head over heels in love with this business. Not only that, but I also MARRIED a jeweler! I definitely never thought that would happen but we met at GIA and, well, the rest is history in the making!
You once explained the company’s rebranding as “Think your grandparent’s jeweler meets Genius Bar.” Can you tell us more about how you are modernizing the process to appeal to millennials?
We have added more accessible lines to our product mix (Kendra Scott, Nina Nguyen, Geoffrey Scott, Shinola) and have a larger focus on customer experience. I’m a millennial and I know it’s all about experience. We are more customer focused than ever!
